Each year, more than 1 million square feet in and around the Anaheim convention center become a sort of World’s Fair of natural products. The Natural Products Expo West must be experienced in-person to be fully appreciated - almost 3,000 vendors offer samples, demonstrations and business opportunities to more than 70,000 attendees. The expo offers a great mix of business development and consumer excitement. Aside from product sampling at levels unmatched by any other conference, attendees come away from the long weekend with a well-developed sense of industry trends and market opportunities. Now that we’ve had a chance to catch our breath after the conference, we wanted to share with you a few key insights trends and insights we learned:
Full disclosure of ingredients, sourcing practices and manufacturing processes are becoming more and more important to consumers.
Taking Paleo one step further, there is currently a large industry focus on “ancient grains and seeds.” This trend focuses on getting back to the roots of the human diet by simplifying ingredients. This trend fits right in with the YouBar model. The more active and busy consumers become, the more important it is for them to have healthy alternative snacks and meals on the go. Naturally, protein bars and small packaged healthy snacks were a huge presence.
